The ADM said students should focus on academics, sports and other creative activities instead of drugs. She encouraged the students to spend time with their family, stating that chances of them falling in the trap of drug addiction was very high when they were alone.

DSP Amit Thakur encouraged the students to immediately inform their teachers or guardians if they knew someone who was addicted to drugs. He said they could also share information on the emergency numbers 112 and 100. “Apart from this, students can also share information through the ‘Drug-Free Himachal’ app. The identity of the informer will not be disclosed,” he added.

Shedding light on the ill-effects of drugs, the DSP said many drug addicts lose their lives within two to 10 years due to not being able to get timely treatment. He said, “Around 350 substances come under the NDPS Act, which has strict punishment provisions. Police are taking strict action against drug traffickers and many accused are in jail,” he said.

District Youth Services and Sports Officer Rakesh Dhauta said sports play a crucial role in keeping children away from drugs. “Today, children are making the country proud in sports at national and international levels. Reservation for sportspersons is also provided in government jobs. Every child should be associated with at least one sport. Sports keep children healthy and happy,” he added.
