Students sensitised on role of ozone layer, contests held

67 students from the departments of physics, chemistry and geography participate

In order to spread awareness about the importance of ozone layer for sustaining life on the earth, Wazir Ram Singh Government College, Dehri, in Fatehpur celebrated World Ozone Day, which falls on September 16, on Monday.

On this occasion, various activities like poster making, essay writing and declamation contests were organised in which college students took part with immense enthusiasm. Around 67 students of the departments of physics, chemistry and geography participated in these activities. Apart from this ECO and Energy Club also evinced keen interest in celebrating World Ozone Day in the college campus.

K Seema from the Department of Physics sensitised the students about the importance, challenges and conservation of protecting the ozone layer. She said that World Ozone Day was celebrated every year across the world to generate mass awareness about the impact of human activities on the ozone layer of the earth.

Kamakshi Lumba from the Department of Chemistry explained to the students the small contributions mankind could make to save the ozone layer. Emphasising the importance of the ozone layer, she said that it was an invisible shield that protected us from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiations.

World Ozone Day was celebrated this year with a theme ‘Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action.’
