The HP High Court has directed the state government to submit an additional Detailed Project Report (DPR) regarding parking issues at Maa Chintpurni Temple, Amb, Una district, within three weeks to the competent authorities at the Centre.
The court further directed the competent authorities to take a call within four weeks thereafter on the DPR already submitted and the additional DPR proposed to be submitted.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice GS Sandhawalia and Justice Satyen Vaidya passed this order on a public interest litigation highlighting the lack of basic amenities at the temple.
During the course of the hearing, it was brought to the notice of the court that an application has been filed by the Joint Director, state Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, for placing on record a DPR of project development of the temple under the Prasad scheme to the Union Ministry of Tourism on December 19, 2024.
However, amicus curiae Nitin Thakur pointed out that as per the order passed on December 16, 2024, the lack of basic amenities was noticed that also included the issue of parking. It was submitted before the court that the DPR as such does not envisage the difficulty of lack of parking.
It was pointed out that the revised DPR of Rs 57.57 crore would not suffice for the proposed parking which is essential for religious tourism.
It was contended in the petition that on the side of Talwara road approaching the temple, the state/ temple trust had failed to take necessary steps to provide adequate facilities to the devotees and there is a lack of basic amenities, including washroom, parking etc.
