Mandi, January 31
The state government has equipped the Civil Hospital of Sundernagar with dialysis and cataract surgery facilities. Six dialysis machines have been installed on the hospital premises besides machines to conduct cataract surgeries.
Official sources said the dialysis facility was only available at the zonal hospital of Mandi earlier but due to rising number of patients, it was getting difficult to provide services to all patients in time. Similarly, the surgery of cataract was being conducted manually but with the availability of machines, it would be performed with modern technology now.
The Sundernagar hospital caters to a large population in Mandi district. People with failed or damaged kidneys face difficulty in eliminating waste and unwanted water from the blood and they need dialysis after regular intervals. It is an artificial way of carrying out this process.
Similarly, cataract is the clouding of lens in the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. Cataract often develops slowly and can affect one or both eyes. Symptoms may include faded colours, blurry or double vision, halos around light, trouble with bright lights and trouble seeing at night.
OP Bhatia, secretary of District Red Cross Society, said two dialysis machines were provided by philanthropists while four other machines were set up by the society at the civil hospital.
