Take concrete action against ragging: Student body to govt

The state unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has condemned the ragging incident that occurred at Bahra University, Waknaghat, in Solan district, demanding the government to take concrete steps to address the issue of ragging in educational institutions.

In a press statement issued here today, ABVP state president Akash Negi said the incident had raised concerns about the effectiveness of the university’s Anti-Ragging Committee. “It has been alleged that the committee was inactive despite ragging having been an ongoing issue. The case brings to light the question of whether such committees are merely formalities,” he added.

“Following the Aman Kachroo case, the establishment of Anti-Ragging Committees in professional colleges and universities was made mandatory to prevent such incidents. However, it appears that these committees often do not fulfil their intended role,” he said.

He warned that if similar incidents occur in the future, the ABVP would stage protests, and launch an aggressive movement.

ABVP holds silent protest in HPU

The Department of Laws, Himachal Pradesh University, unit of the ABVP today staged a silent protest on the university campus and demanded that the university authorities fulfil various demands of the students.

ABVP activists demanded the provision of clean drinking water in the department, proper seating arrangements in classrooms, repair of the damaged roof, daily cleaning of restrooms, new furniture for the library, and lift facilities for disabled persons.

ABVP HPU Law Department unit president Akshay Thakur said despite repeated appeals, none of the students’ demands had been fulfilled by the administration.
