To generate employment opportunities for the electricians, who have registered themselves on the ‘Sewa Setu Sirmaur’ portal, RK Pruthi, Deputy Commissioner, Sirmaur, has initiated manufacture of decorative string lights, which would be launched during the festive season of Diwali. This is the first such venture in the state.

The DC said there was a demand for decorative string lights in the ensuing festive season, so an effort had been initiated to equip the electricians who had registered themselves on the ‘Sewa Setu Sirmaur’ portal. As many as 63 electricians had registered themselves on the portal and they were being trained to manufacture lights, he said.

Pruthi said, “Loans can be availed through the Mukhyamantri Swavalamban Yojana. Going by the large number of educated electricians available here, the effort is to make Sirmaur a hub of electrical goods. To begin with, assembly of such strings will be undertaken in the first year, and then manufacturing will take place next year. A common platform can be created where issues relating to purchase of raw materials and sale of finished products can be settled.”

“With the demand for items such as illuminated idols going up in the festive season, the electricians can be gainfully employed to manufacture quality products. The products will be available to the people at an optimum price,” added Pruthi.

Such electrical strings are used once and then stored, so an effort will also be made to enhance their utility future use. As a trial, the electricians were concentrating on assembly this year, while the raw material had been secured from Delhi, said the DC. Both static and blinking strings were being manufactured. The adaptor used had been made in Sirmaur itself. As many as 10,000 strings would be manufactured this year, which would be sold at sale counters provided to the self help groups at the block levels, added Pruthi.

“The Chambers of Commerce and Industry will be persuaded to buy them as gift items. Students having electrical trade in the training institutes will be encouraged to make these strings every Diwali,” added Pruthi.
