Tandi-Udaipur road opened to traffic after 9-day blockade
In a significant development, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) yesterday restored the Sansari-Killar-Thirot-Tandi road to traffic between Tandi and Udaipur after nine-day blockade, providing much-needed relief to the residents of Udaipur sub-division in Lahaul and Spiti district. The road, which connects Udaipur to the district headquarters, Keylong, had been cut off since February 26 due to heavy snowfall, leaving local residents isolated and struggling to access essential services.
The restoration of this crucial road has brought relief to the people of Udaipur, who were unable to reach the district headquarters for over a week. However, the BRO continues its efforts to restore the road further from Udaipur towards Tindi, a key route that connects Lahaul and Spiti with the remote Pangi region of Chamba district. The completion of this restoration is expected to significantly improve connectivity for the region which has been heavily impacted after heavy snowfall.
In addition to the road restoration, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) has successfully restored power supply to the villages of Rarik, Chhika, and Yoche. These villages had been without electricity since February 26. The villagers, who had been living in darkness for over a week, are now able to access basic amenities once again, bringing much-needed respite to them.
Mobile phone services have also been restored in several parts of the district, allowing residents to reconnect with their loved ones and access essential communication services.
Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana assured the public that restoration work is in full swing and that normalcy would soon return to the district. She stated that she was in regular contact with both the district administration and the BRO to ensure the rapid completion of ongoing restoration efforts, including roadways, power supply and telecommunications services.
