A car falls into a deep gorge at Seraj in Mandi on Tuesday.

A 20-year-old taxi driver was killed after his car plunged into a deep gorge at Kalhani village in the Seraj Assembly constituency of Mandi district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Bhupender Kumar, a resident of Dhar village in Mandi district. He died on the spot in the accident that occurred around 1 am when he was reportedly returning home after dropping passengers. His car (HP-01-M-4882) went out of control and rolled down the steep slope.

Local residents found the wreckage of the car this morning and informed the police immediately. The police arrived at the accident spot and recovered the body, which was sent to the hospital for an autopsy.

Bhupender was the only son of his parents. The preliminary investigation suggests that he may have dozed off, causing the vehicle to veer off the road.
