The Directorate of School Education has directed all government senior secondary schools to assign teaching responsibilities to lecturers from Class VI to XII. The directorate had noticed that the lecturers were being given teaching assignments only for Class XI and XII, which was not in accordance with the provisions of the existing Recruitment and Promotion Rules or with the terms and conditions of their appointment.

As per the notified Recruitment and Promotion Rules, the lecturers are qualified to teach their postgraduate subjects in Class XI and XII, and the subjects studied in Class VI to X. The education code of the state also empowered school principals to assign teaching duties based on requirements. “Deploying lecturers to teach lower classes is not only administratively valid but also necessary to meet the academic needs of schools,” wrote the Director, Education.
