A few days after a video of a teacher torturing a student with a prickly bush went viral in the Rohru sub-division of district Shimla, another incident of corporal punishment has come to light in the sub-division. An FIR has been registered against a teacher of Government Primary School in Bhaloon village under relevant sections of the BNS and SC/ST (POA) Act for inflicting severe corporal punishment on a Class 1 student.
As per the complaint filed by Durga Singh, father of the child, a teacher named Nitish Thakur thrashed his son in the school, leading to bleeding from the minor’s ear and causing partial loss of hearing. The father further alleged that the teacher also put stinging nettle in the child’s pants to torture him further.
Durga Singh further alleged that the teacher, who beat up his child, teaches at the school in place of his wife, who’s the actual teacher. Besides, he claimed that teachers practice untouchability in the school by making the upper caste children sit separately from the Dalit and Nepali students for midday meal.
The child’s father claimed that the head teacher of the school threatened to expel his son from the school of he raised the matter at any forum. As per the complaint, the head teacher even visited the house of the victim along with another teacher from the school to force the family to not file a police complaint and suppress the matter.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch has demanded the arrest of the accused at the earliest. The manch has also urged the Education Department to take action against the teacher who has allegedly been sending her husband in her place to teach at the school.
