Raising concerns over potential irregularities in the online evaluation of undergraduate examination answer sheets at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), the Himachal Pradesh Government College Teachers’ Association (HPGCTA) has appealed to the university to revert to offline evaluation to safeguard transparency.

The HPGCTA president, Dr Banita Saklani, stated there are signs certain individuals may be receiving final-year answer sheets through online channels and evaluating them without following norms — or having them evaluated under questionable circumstances. She said such practices raise concerns and suggest possible irregularities.

“The evaluation system at HPU has been under scrutiny, with repeated instances of student injustice and administrative irregularities. This time, there is growing speculation of nepotism,” she added.

Dr Saklani noted college teachers across the state are waiting for official evaluation duty assignments from the university, with no communication so far. “Instead, there is talk of declaring results directly. The university administration must clarify its position, including who is carrying out the evaluation and whether it is being conducted in accordance with established academic standards,” she said.

The association stressed offline evaluation remains the most transparent and equitable method and urged HPU to restore the process to maintain integrity.
