Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, who presided over the district-level Republic Day function at Solan yesterday, said the state government was determined to make Himachal a green state and to achieve the objective, the use of new technology was being ensured. “The government is working to provide a prosperous, safe and developed Himachal to the future generations,” said the minister.
The Public Works Minister said the state government was working for the betterment of all sections of society and special emphasis was being laid on women empowerment. He said the state government had decided to increase the marriageable age of girls from 18 years to 21 years.
Speaker presides over R-Day event in Dharamsala
On the occasion of Republic Day, a district-level function was organised with enthusiasm and joy at the Police Ground of Dharamsala. Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania presided over the function and unfurled the national flag. Earlier, Pathania paid homage to the fallen heroes at the War Memorial.
In his address, the Speaker said the great Constitution of India came into effect on this historic day and the dream of democracy was realised in the country. He also paid homage to the makers of the Constitution.
Highlighting the potential of tourism, he said tourism alone could be the game changer in providing employment opportunities to the locals on a large-scale and could also be a ray of hope, especially for the rural areas. Tourism projects could be linked to start-up schemes to increase the participation of the youth, he added.
Cultural programmes were also presented at the function. The Speaker honoured the employees, volunteers and the NDRF, SDRF personnel who provided excellent services during the disaster.
Agriculture Minister unfurls Tricolour in Una
Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar unfurled the national flag at Government School, Una, during the district-level celebrations of Republic Day. He took salute from the march-past contingents. Speaking on the occasion, Chander Kumar said the people faced a huge disaster last year and the state government provided immediate relief and restored drinking water, roads and power services in record time.
Chander Kumar said now the Hamirpur segment had the posts of the Chief Minister as well as the Deputy Chief Minister and the area was poised for development. Earlier, he paid floral tributes at the War Memorial in the Una Municipal Park. DC Raghav Sharma, SP Arijit Sen Thakur and MLAs Satpal Satti, Chaitanya Sharma and Sudarshan Babloo were also present on the occasion.
