All passengers were Nepal nationals travelling to the Nepal border

Twentynine passenger sustained injuries after a Tempo Traveller (HP 01 AA 0330) they were travelling in overturned on the National Highway 05 near Narkanda in Shimla district. The injured comprised 12 women and 17 men. All the injured were Nepal natives and were on their way to Nepal border. They had boarded the vehicle from Reckong Peo, Kinnaur.

According to police, the accident took place on near Dogra Mandi in Narkanda on Sunday around 1:00 am after driver lost its control, leading to the vehicle overturning on the road. As a result, the passengers, including the driver, suffered injuries. The accident was noticed by the locals who informed the police.

A police team reached the spot and rescued the injured with the assistance of locals. The injured were rushed to Civil Hospital, Kumarsain for treatment. Around 21 injured were referred to the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) hospital, Shimla. Dr Rahul Rao, Medical Superintendent, IGMC said that out of total 21 injured, two are critical while the rest of the 19 are out of danger. However, they have been kept under observation.

Shimla DC Anupam Kashyap visited the IGMC to inquire about the well-being of the injured. He met all the patients and assured them that the state government would provide every possible assistance to them.

The DC said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed sorrow over the incident and directed to ensure that the best possible medical treatment is provided to the injured. Police officials also stated that a case under section 281 (rash driving) and 125a (endangering life of others) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 has been registered against the accused and further investigation is being carried out.
