Thousands of devotees brave rain to attend Shivaratri fair

Despite inclement weather and continuous rainfall, thousands of devotees thronged the historic Lord Shiva temple in Kathgarh, Indora subdivision, on the third day of the district-level Shivaratri fair. Undeterred by the downpour, devotees from Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring states stood in long queues, chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ as they offered prayers.

Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Chander Kumar presided over the closing ceremony, leading a shobha yatra and performing rituals in the temple. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the historical and religious significance of the Kathgarh temple. He also emphasised the government’s focus on the conservation and development of temples and Shakti Peeths, recognising their religious tourism potential.

However, a key issue was raised during the event. Last year, while inaugurating the fair, the minister had announced Rs 2 lakh for temple development and maintenance. Yet, the funds have not been released even after a year. Om Prakash Katoch, president of the temple management committee, reminded the minister of this pending commitment. In response, Chander Kumar assured that the funds would be released soon.

The Shivaratri fair at Kathgarh remains a major religious and cultural event, attracting thousands of devotees each year, reaffirming their deep faith and devotion.
