Thousands of vehicles were caught in a traffic snarl between Chharabra and Fagu this evening, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
According to police, the jam was triggered by a massive influx of tourists returning from Kufri and other popular destinations in the upper Shimla area. “More than 10,000 tourist vehicles have already exited the city through the Shoghi border today. The traffic has slowed considerably, as there’s simply no space left within the city,” said Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi.
Local residents at Chharabra and Kufri said the traffic was halted briefly earlier in the day and in the evening for VIP movement. However, SP Gandhi clarified that the traffic congestion was primarily due to the heavy tourist flow, not the VIP movement.
A commuter suggested that the police could have diverted light vehicles heading upwards via Mashobra to alleviate congestion on the Dhalli-Kufri road.
