Three-day Mata Chintpurni Festival kicks off at Amb

The three-day state-level Mata Chintpurni Festival began at the Ramlila ground in Amb city on Friday. This marks the second edition of the annual festival at the same venue.

A ‘sacred lamp’ (jyoti) was lighted at the Mata Chintpurni shrine at 4 pm and placed in a vehicle to be ceremoniously installed at the festival’s venue.

Locals and folk artistes took out a procession as the lamp was taken to the venue, where Chintpurni MLA Sudarshan Babloo installed the lamp. He was joined by the organisers and scores of devotees.

During the three days, locally-made products like handicrafts and daily use items made by self-help groups, micro and medium industries of the district will be showcased during the exhibition. The event will also feature exhibitions on welfare schemes of the state government.

But, the ‘Mahishasur Mardini’ dance and nati performances are likely to be the highlights of the three-day festival. Meanwhile, Punjabi singers Babbu Mann and Amrit Mann, along with other singers AC Bhardwaj, Kumar Sahil and Anuj Sharma will entertain the audience during the cultural nights.

The event will feature traditional games like wrestling, tug of war and musical chairs, as well as baby shows and cattle shows. Health check-up camps are also being organised.
