The 55th Annual Group Meeting of the All-India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Soybean concluded on Friday at Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University in Palampur.

During the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof Naveen Kumar emphasised the importance of soybean as a vital crop for both humans and livestock. He urged experts to promote soybean varieties and cultivation techniques to the public through Krishi Vigyan Kendras and related departments. He emphasised that this would increase awareness about soybean’s benefits and boost both production and commerce.

Dr KH Singh, Director of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research Soybean National Soybean Research Institute in Indore, commended the experts for their work in developing new soybean varieties and cultivation methods in key soybean-growing states. He further encouraged researchers to focus on creating soybean varieties suited for products like paneer (tofu) and dal. The ‘Central Variety Release Committee’ announced the identification of a high-yielding, protein-rich, disease- and pest-resistant soybean variety — JS 2433 — for official release.
