Three young men lost their lives when their car (HP 02AA-0169) fell 50 metres off the road near Matiana in Shimla district late Tuesday night, the police said.
The victims were identified as Sajan (23) of Sungra village, Nichar tehsil, Kinnaur; Prashant (21) of Kashmir village, Kalpa tehsil, Kinnaur; and Sahil (22) of Kapti village, Nirmand tehsil, Kullu. The accident occurred around 10:50 pm on NH5 while they were travelling from Shimla to Rampur. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal crash.
Locals noticed the accident and informed the police. A team from the Theog police station reached the scene and recovered the bodies, which were later sent to a hospital for postmortem.
Theog Deputy Superintendent of Police Siddharth Sharma confirmed the incident and stated that a case under Section 281 (rash driving) and Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 has been registered. Investigations are ongoing to determine further details surrounding the mishap.
