Shimla, May 26
The UPSC has cleared a panel of IPS officers, one of them will succeed SR Mardi, DGP, who will retire on May 31.
Chief Secretary Anil Khachi flew to Delhi early this morning to attend a meeting in the UPSC office. A panel comprising three names of IPS officers was cleared for the appointment to the top post. The names are DGP (Prisons) Somesh Goyal, Sanjay Kundu, DGP posted as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, and Tapan Deka, serving outside Himachal.
Kundu appears to be the front-runner for the top post with Deka not keen to return to Himachal. Goyal was the DGP earlier and was removed when the Gudiya rape case took place at Kotkhai in Shimla. It is the state government which will now select an officer on May 30 or 31 when Mardi retires.
A meeting was also held at UPSC office to pave the way for inducting 11 Himachal Administrative Services (HAS) officers into the IAS cadre. Those who will be inducted into IAS cadre include Manmohan Sharma and Rakesh Sharma (1998 batch), Rohit Jamwal, Ashwani Kumar, DC Rana and Anupam Kashyap and Yash Pal (1999 batch) and Rupali Thakur, Pankaj Rai, Pradeep Kumar and Ram Kumar Gautam (2002) batch. They will be inducted into the IAS cadre after the issuance of the notification.
