Three youths die of asphyxia in Solan

The police said the youth had used coal to prepare food and left it in the lit up condition in the room.

Three youth died after inhaling carbon monoxide emanating from coal used to cook food in a rented room at Rehu village in Anech gram panchayat near Dagshai in the district this morning.

The up-pradhan of Anech gram panchayat informed the police that three youth were lying unconscious in a room of his building rented to Arbaz. He found that the youth had vomited and were lying on the floor.

Dilshad, brother of one of the deceased, told the police that he came to Rehu village after he could not contact his brother on his cellphone. He opened the latch of his brother’s room by removing the wire mesh of a window and found him and two other youth lying unconscious on the floor. They were taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them brought dead. The deceased were identified as Arbaz (34), Suresh (22) and Suraj (27), all from Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. They were painters and working at Rehu village.

The police inspected the room and said that the youth had used coal to prepare food and left it in the lit up condition in the room. They were choked to death by carbon monoxide produced by the coal.

A team of forensic science experts also visited the room to gather evidence. The bodies were sent for a post-mortem to a local hospital, said Solan SP Gaurav Singh.
