Time Dehra got its due: MLA Kamlesh
Dehra MLA Kamlesh Thakur today underlined her commitment to fulfil the long-cherished dreams of people of the constituency who, she said, had remained ignored for decades. She distributed cheques for Rs 91 lakh at Bachat Bhawan.
Later, the MLA listened to the people’s grievances and engaged with the officers of different departments drawing road map for future.
“Unlike previous representatives, the approach this time, it seems, is to actually bring about an appreciable change on the ground,” said Shiv who had come to seek financial assistance for his house damaged in the rainy season.
The constituency has remained neglected for decades. Shattered by massive displacement of people due to coming up of the Pong lake, the region could not keep pace with development due to adverse political reasons also. The successive representatives being outsiders failed to win the sentiment of the people. The state of hopelessness ended with Hoshiyar Singh, a Mumbai-based businessman belonging to Dehra, who won twice an Independent defeating the BJP and Congress.
With her roots in Dehra, Kamlesh Thakur is addressing the issues affecting the area. Sources reveal that a concrete roadmap has been drawn to give a new lease of life to the area “disowned” for over half-a-century as the hardworking people of this prosperous area became “oustees” in early 70s.
Acquisition of vacant land is taking place to house the recently announced new offices. Talking to The Tribune, Kamlesh Thakur said, “The offices are being opened at Dehra for the welfare of my brothers and sisters living in remote areas. It is my commitment, which will be honoured by ensuring that development reaches up to the last man down the street.”
Kamlesh Thakur gave a patient hearing to people and solved their problems on the spot. For the Chief Minister’s wife, the first objective is to remove the backwardness of the Dehra area, for which she is meeting the administrative officers every day, giving directions and taking feedback.
“Dehra is fortunate to have the power backup of the CM office for the first time in history,” said Anjana Thakur, pradhan of Dhawala, the biggest panchayat of the area.
It is learnt that the DPRs for all the connecting roads, which have remained neglected for years, are being prepared. The department is expediting the work going on at snail’s pace at Nand Nala, a bridge that is the lifeline of some villages. Many new projects, including focus on tourism promotion at the Pong lake, are in the pipeline.
