The Cyber Crime Branch of the police has cautioned Facebook users against misuse of the social media and advised them to verify the profile of Facebook friends to avoid hacking of their accounts.

The branch, which receives 10-15 complaints daily, on analysis of data found that 90 per cent of the hacked accounts were those in which mobile number was used as a password.

It advised users to have strong and long passwords, use separate passwords for each account and exercise caution regarding sharing sensitive personal information like address, financial information and phone number as this could be stolen.

DSP, crime branch, Narvir Singh Rathore said messages regarding depositing money in the bank account in case of emergencies like accidents should not be taken on face value as these could have been sent by hacking the IDs. One should cross-check before making any financial transaction.
