To benefit Gaddi community, govt planning to hike wool MSP: Sukhu

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that the state government was contemplating to enhance the minimum support price (MSP) of wool, considering hardships being faced by the Gaddi community.

A delegation of the Gaddi community, led by newly appointed Himachal Pradesh Wool Federation Chairman Manoj Kumar, called on him here.

Sukhu said that the state government was committed to resolving the issues faced by the Gaddi community. He added that the government would ensure that sheep and goat rearers receive remunerative prices for their hard work, thereby strengthening the rural economy.

He said that adopting a sympathetic approach, the state government had enhanced the compensation manifold for the families affected by the monsoon disaster of 2023 by offering a special relief package. He added that under this initiative, the state government enhanced the financial assistance from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000 for the loss of sheep, goats and pigs.

He said that in the coming times, this financial assistance would be further increased to support the livestock rearing community. Manoj Kumar expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for his appointment, which he said was a matter of pride for the Gaddi community residing in Chamba and Kangra districts. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh was also present on the occasion.
