To promote start-ups, Himachal Govt inks MoUs with AIIMS, IIM

The Industries Department today inked memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with AIIMS-Bilaspur and the IIM-Sirmaur for on-boarding new incubation centres. Director, Industries, Rakesh Kumar Prajapati signed the MoUs on behalf of the state government in the presence of Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan here.

Assistance in strategy formulation

It is with the objective of strengthening start-ups that the government has signed the MoUs with two premier institutions. The IIM-Sirmaur will assist the new start-ups in strategy formulation, understanding networking and market outreach along with providing other relevant support. AIIMS-Bilaspur will provide assistance to the start-ups in the healthcare sector. Harshwardhan Chauhan, Industries Minister

Chauhan said, “It is with the objective of strengthening start-ups that the Himachal Government signed the MoUs with two premier institutions, taking the number of incubation centres in the state to 14. The IIM-Sirmaur will assist the new start-ups in strategy formulation, understanding networking and market outreach along with providing other relevant support. AIIMS-Bilaspur will provide assistance to the start-ups in the healthcare sector.”

“The state encourages the establishment of incubation centres in the existing institutions to promote start-ups and new units. Besides, entrepreneurs can float innovative ideas to be implemented in these premier institutions. Furthermore, these institutions can send their interns to industrial units for practical training,” he added.

He said that the government was constantly encouraging entrepreneurs to improve skills with necessary support and professional guidance. To promote start-ups, the state government has launched the Mukhaymantri Start-up/Innovation Projects/New Industries Scheme’ with an objective to encourage the educated youth become job creators instead of job seekers. The scheme aims to create employment and provide support to start-ups so as to encourage their growth, he added. He said that incubation support was a fundamental component of the start-ups and to promote them, the government would collaborate with organisations to establish incubators in the form of capital or operational expenditure.

“It is due to the efforts of the Industries Department that Himachal was adjudged as the ‘Best Performer’ in category-B states by the Department for Industry and Internal Trade, Government of India, on January 16,” he added.
