Around 7,000 regular teachers have been appointed, said Education Minister Rohit Thakur today after inaugurating a new building of Government Senior Secondary School at Deha (Balsan) in Theog subdivision of Shimla district, constructed at a cost of around Rs 2.87 crore.

He added that the process to fill over 9,000 positions was underway. These appointments would address the teachers’ shortage in remote areas. Besides, the state government had decided to regularise teachers working under the school management committee (SMC) through the LDR.

The minister said that the state government was continuously striving to provide quality education. “School buildings equipped with modern facilities are being constructed to provide a better learning environment for students. Educating and empowering the new generation is the government’s top priority so that they can contribute to the state’s development,” he added.

The minister said that several reforms had been taken to strengthen quality education, improve infrastructure and sports facilities in the state. “Himachal has improved its ranking from the 21st position to the fifth place in the NAS survey, which was the result of the state government’s effective policies and dedicated efforts of teachers. Similarly, the state ranked first in the ASER report and second in the PARAKH report,” he added.

He said that the state’s literacy rate was only 7 per cent in 1947, which had now reached 99.30 per cent. “Besides, we have introduced English from Class I and a school adoption scheme has been launched to ensure their overall development,” he added.
