Mandi, August 5
In a successful rescue operation, 11 tourists stranded at Malana village in Kullu district have been evacuated and transported to Kasol.
The group had been marooned in the remote area since July 31 following a heavy cloudburst in Malana power project area. The cloudburst caused significant damage to the Malana power project and the road connecting Malana village to the outside world, trapping the tourists.
The rescue mission, coordinated by local authorities and emergency service personnel, involved grappling with challenging conditions due to the damaged infrastructure. The operation was led by SDM Kullu, Vikas Shukla, who confirmed that the tourists were moved to safety in Kasol, a nearby town not affected by the floods.
The road damage has left Malana village in tatters as essential services have been disrupted. Emergency teams are working to restore access and repair the damaged infrastructure.
