A team of officials today challaned a tractor-trailer driver for dumping sewage in the Housing Board nullah near Sandholi in Baddi.
Registered for agriculture use, the vehicle was being used for commercial purpose in the industrial belt. The driver had filled sewage from a house at Sandholi and was dumping it in the nullah when the team of officials led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Ajay Yadav caught him red-handed.
The staff of the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), who was also present there, found that the vehicle was registered for agriculture use. “The driver was stopped from emptying the entire waste and challaned Rs 20,000. The police impounded the tractor-trailer,” said Yadav.
In the absence of proper drainage in rented accommodation created for housing workers in this industrial cluster, house owners get waste dumped into water bodies. Several housing colonies lack proper sewage disposal systems. As a result, water quality of the Housing Board nullah has not improved though the SPCB has taken a slew of measures. Tractor-trailers are often seen dumping effluents or sewage in water bodies, besides carrying illegally quarried material.
