Solan, October 22

Traders today protested the delay in the repair of the Kumarhatti junction, where a flyover is being constructed on the National Highway No-5.

Traders, who run shops in the area, rued that they were facing health issues ever since the four-laning work began and the poor condition of the road at the junction was creating hardships, besides keeping customers at bay.

A trader, Gaurav, said, “It has become difficult to sit in our shops as plumes of dust keep coming in. We are also incurring losses as our wares get covered in dust despite being cleaned again and again. The dust has also been aggravating people’s allergies despite the use of mask.”

The traders raised slogans against GR Infraprojects, which is four-laning the highway, saying that the administration should ensure that the road was repaired within three days. They rued that despite requesting Health Minister Rajiv Saizal, who is also the local MLA, the road at Kumarhatti Chowk was not being repaired.

Balwinder Singh, project manager, GR Infraprojects, said they were sprinkling water three to four times a day and added that since five roads converged at the junction, water seepage mechanisms were being laid which would take some time.

He added that efforts were afoot to resume one-way traffic from the flyover which would ease the traders who were running their shops below along the road.
