Tradition broken, no holy dip in Rewalsar lake

In wake of Covid-19 scare, age-old tradition was broken in Mandi district on the occasion of Baisakhi. There was no holy dip in lake water in Rewalsar town in Mandi district on the occasion of Baisakhi festival, which generally is abuzz with religious activity.

Every year a two-day festival is organized to celebrate Baisakhi festival, in which a large number of people from the district congregate in the Rewalsar town to take holy dip in lake water.

The town has huge religious importance, where tourists can have glimpse of a temple, gurdwara and monastery at a single place.

KK Nutan, writer and historian, said it was first time that age old tradition of Baisakhi celebration was broken in Rewalsar town due to Covid-19 scare. Devotees assembling at Rewalsar and taking holy dip in lake water was a ritual going on since long.

Om Prakash of Rewalsar, said there was complete silence on Baisakhi in Rewalsar because no one person was allowed to take holy dip due to ongoing lockdown to check spread of Covid-19.
