Traffic restored on Tandi-Killar, Darcha-Shinkula-Padum roads

In a significant development for travellers in Lahaul and Spiti district, the Darcha-Shinkula-Padum and the Tandi-Killar roads were restored to traffic today by the Border Roads Organisation, ending a five-day blockade caused by heavy cloudbursts. The restoration of these crucial routes comes as a relief to the residents and travellers who had been waiting desperately for the restoration of these roads.
The Darcha-Shinkula-Padum road, an essential link connecting remote Zanskar valley of the Union territory Ladakh with Himachal in Lahaul and Spiti district, had been rendered inaccessible due to extensive damage following the recent cloudburst incident beyond Darcha towards Shinkula. The extensive rains had caused landslides. Heavy debris accumulation, blocking the road and disrupting transportation in the region.
According to the police, the BRO teams worked tirelessly to clear the debris and restore the road, allowing resumption of normal traffic today.
Similarly, the Tandi-Killar road, which connects Tandi in Lahaul and Spiti with Pangi region in Chamba district, was also disrupted by the recent flashflood. The road, particularly beyond Udaipur, had been blocked, severely impacting connectivity and mobility in the area. The restoration work involved clearing landslides and repairing damaged sections of the road to ensure passage of vehicles once again.
“BRO teams have been actively engaged in restoring these vital routes. The reopening of these roads is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges and improve accessibility for both residents and visitors in the affected areas,” the police said.
Authorities have said that though the situation has improved, travellers should remain cautious and stay updated on weather conditions and road status. The authorities are monitor the situation and prepared to take necessary actions to ensure road safety because of unpredictable weather.
