The Himachal Pradesh government’s flagship Chief Minister Sukh-Aashray Scheme is making a transformative impact on the lives of orphaned and destitute children and youth across the state. Conceived by CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the scheme goes beyond financial aid, offering emotional security, social dignity and a sense of belonging to those without family support.

In Mandi district alone, 24 eligible beneficiaries have recently received marriage assistance of Rs 2 lakh each — an important support that allows them to mark the occasion with dignity. Of the total amount, 70 per cent is transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account, while the remaining 30 per cent is placed in a fixed deposit for five years, ensuring future financial stability.

Covering individuals from infancy up to the age of 27, the CM Sukh-Aashray Scheme provides comprehensive care, including education, housing and now even marriage support — reflecting the government’s inclusive and compassionate governance model.

For Naveen Kumar of Pundal village, Gwali Panchayat, who lost both parents early in life, the scheme has been life-changing. “At this special moment in life, I felt the presence of a parent in the form of the state,” he said, expressing heartfelt gratitude to CM Sukhu for his support.

Poonam Sharma from Bhanera village, Karsog Subdivision, echoed the sentiment, saying, “This scheme is not just about financial assistance — it’s a symbol of trust and care.” Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan confirmed that the scheme’s implementation in Mandi is smooth and timely, with all eligible beneficiaries receiving the full range of benefits.

The initiative stands as a testament to how a sensitive, visionary government can uplift the most vulnerable and truly become a guardian for those without one.
