Emphasising the urgent need for environmental conservation, Prof Mahavir Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), said the Gaddi tribe played a significant role in protecting the environment. He was speaking at a one-day national seminar on the theme “Tribes of Himachal Pradesh: Modernity, Identity and Existence” organised by the Department of Political Science, HPU, on Wednesday. The VC said, “Tribal communities should have an important role in disaster management, as they spend most of their time outdoors and have a deep understanding of the environment.”
