In accordance with the directions of the state government, the national flag currently hoisted at the historic Ridge in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, will soon be relocated to a more suitable location. This decision comes in the wake of the recent widening and restructuring work completed at The Ridge.

Along with the national flag, the rain shelter at the Ridge will also be moved to a new site.

Shimla (Urban) MLA Harish Janartha confirmed that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had directed the relocation of the flag on January 26. Efforts are underway to identify an appropriate new location for the flag, with the Municipal Corporation and Public Works Department (PWD) working together on the task.

“While the PWD will act as the nodal department, the Municipal Corporation of Shimla will serve as the monitoring body,” added Janartha. The MLA made this announcement during his visit to The Ridge, where he, along with other dignitaries, conducted an inspection of the site.

The 100-foot long Tricolour was first hoisted at The Ridge in 2015 by the then CM Virbhadra Singh, at an approximate cost of Rs 14 lakh.
