Commuters on Monday faced inconvenience at Matour Chowk after two heavy trucks developed a snag and were stuck in the middle of the road. The trucks blocked the traffic for some time.

“It caused inconvenience as vehicles got stuck. Even, ambulances got stuck in the jam. The administration must find a solution to the problem of traffic congestion as people cannot wait for the ongoing four-lane project’s completion. The project is taking a lot of time and the situation is getting bad to worse,” said Jeevan, a native of Kangra, who daily commutes to Dharamsala. Later, police personnel helped clear the jam.

Kangra DSP Ankit Sharma said, “During peak hours, Kangra SHO or I personally remain present on the road at Matour Chowk as it is one of the busiest roads. There is no detour to manage the traffic. At any given time, three policemen remain present to manage traffic at the chowk.” If a vehicle gets stuck in the middle of the road, the entire traffic comes to a standstill, residents said.

Commuters said keeping in view the importance of the road, two tow-away vehicles should be stationed so that traffic can be cleared in case of any problem. They are of the view that the heavy vehicles should be detoured to alternative routes, especially during the peak hours.
