Several trucks without registration numbers are transporting mining material in the district right under the nose of the police and mining authorities. It seems the departments concerned were hardly taking any action against the violation.

Notably, a number of roads are under construction in the district, including two four-lane national highways — one from Matour to Shimla and a part of Jalandhar-Mandi NH, besides the widening of many state highways.

Hamirpur happens to be the home district of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The law strictly prohibits the transportation of mining material in a vehicle, which is not bearing the registration number. The CM had categorically stated that mining mafia was active in the district. Despite the directions from the CM, law-enforcing agencies are turning a blind eye to the violations.

Meanwhile, two-wheelers can be seen without registration numbers in villages and towns of the district with many riders not wearing helmets.

District Mining Officer Dinesh Kaundal said he was not aware of the movement of trucks without registration numbers. He added that he would look into the matter and initiate action against the offenders.

Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur said strict action would be taken against traffic violations. He added that as far as violations by motorcycle riders are concerned, they must wear helmets for their safety to avoid action by authorities.
