The CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bio-resource Technology (CSIR-IHBT), Palampur, sent tulip flowers to commemorate the opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya today. These flowers were presented to Lord Rama during the ‘Pran-Pratishtha Mahotsav’ there.

Every year, multiple varieties of tulips are planted in the CSIR-IHBT’s Tulip Garden, which is the first in Himachal Pradesh and the second tulip garden of India.

Bhavya Bhargava, Nodal Scientist of Floriculture Mission, CSIR-IHBT, said this year, tulip flowers had been grown in open field conditions as well as in hydroponic settings. In addition, he added, “We are sending these flowers to be a part of this special occasion in Ayodhya.”

Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director, CSIR-IHBT, said it was a matter of pride for the premier institution that the CSIR-IHBT had also been be involved in the consecration ceremony.

“Tulip does not flower in this season. It grows only in Jammu & Kashmir and few other higher Himalayan regions and that too only in the spring season. The Institute of Himalayan Bio-resource Technology, Palampur, has recently developed an indigenous technology through which tulip can be made available throughout the year, without waiting for its season,” he said.
