Two Amritsar residents held with 4.30 kg charas at Kandwal barrier
The district police succeeded in busting an interstate drug smuggling racket on Friday by arresting two Punjab residents entering Himachal Pradesh with the contraband.
After receiving a tip-off, the police laid a naka at the Kandwal interstate barrier under the Nurpur police station. Police personnel manning the naka stopped a Swift Dzire car bearing registration number Punjab-06-AE-4569 coming from the Punjab side. After searching, the police recovered 4.30 kg of charas from the possession of two car occupants identified as Amit Kaushal, a resident of Aman Avenue, Amritsar, and Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Majitha Road, Amritsar.
Ashok Ratan, Superintendent of Police (SP), Nurpur, said after conducting a preliminary investigation, the police registered an FIR under Sections 20, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act against the two accused. He said the vehicle used in transporting the contraband had been impounded. He said the duo would be produced in a court on Saturday for seeking their police remand.
The SP said the police would thoroughly investigate this interstate drug smuggling racket and verify network of the accused in the area. He said the police were focusing on dismantling this network with an objective to snap the supply line of drugs in the district.
