Two families homeless after cloudburst in Ghumarwin

Hamirpur July 8

Two families were rendered homeless in Bhagot village in Ghumarwin subdivision of Bilaspur district today due to flashflood following cloudburst in the area.The incident is reported to have occurred around 3 a.m. today when members of families were sleeping in their houses.

It is learnt that overflooding in Padged nullah that was flowing close to the houses damaged the houses of Sarvan Kumar and Kuldeep Kumar. The house of Nikka Ram received cracks. The flashflood also washed away pet animals like buffalos, sheep and goats and one car parked nearby.

Rajeev Thakur, SDM, Ghumarwin, rushed to the spot to monitor the situation. Jawans of Home Guard and police rescued the affected families and animals trapped in the debris.

Rajinder Garg, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, provided immediate relief of Rs 1.2 lakh each to Sarvan Kumar and Kuldeep Kumar and Rs 30,000 to Nikka Ram. The minister directed the administration to access the loss and provide relief to the families.

Subhash Thakur MLA also visited the affected families and assured them every possible help.
