Two injured as landslide hits bus on Chamba-Tissa road
A major road accident was narrowly averted on Saturday morning when a private bus plying on the Chamba-Tissa road was struck by a landslide. Due to the impact of the landslide, the driver lost control over the bus, with the front portion of the vehicle going off the road.
Two persons, including the bus conductor, sustained injuries in the incident. The injured were identified as Karan, a resident of Bagheigarh, and Hemraj, a resident of Bhadoga in Churah subdivision.
The injured were rushed to the Chamba Medical College, where they were admitted for further treatment. The incident happened around 11:45 am when large quantity of debris suddenly fell from the hillside onto the moving bus. Reacting swiftly, the driver applied emergency brakes, preventing the bus from plunging into the gorge, despite momentarily losing control over the vehicle.
Earlier, work was undertaken for road widening in the area where the landslide occurred. Locals claimed that land excavation left the hillside unstable, increasing the risk of landslides, especially during heavy rains. They urged the authorities concerned to take preventive measures to ensure passenger safety on this route.
