In a tragic road accident reported here on Sunday, a tempo traveller carrying 21 passengers, including the driver, veered off the road and plunged into a rivulet near Sanpalu village on the Jachh–Chailchowk road. The accident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Gohar police station and resulted in the death of two passengers, while 19 others sustained injuries.
According to Mandi SP Sakshi Verma, the ill-fated vehicle was en route to its destination when the driver reportedly lost control near a sharp turn, causing the vehicle to fall into the rivulet.
Locals and police personnel rushed to the spot and immediately began the rescue operations.
“The injured were quickly evacuated and taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Gohar, and the medical college at Nerchowk for medical attention. While most of the injured are reported to be out of danger, the exact number of critically injured passengers is yet to be confirmed,” the SP said.
“The two deceased passengers have been identified as Neelmani and Bodh Raj, both residents of Bhurla village in Mandi,” she added.
“The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident,” she said.
The SP said the matter was being looked into thoroughly. “We are saddened by the loss of lives in this unfortunate accident. Our team is ensuring that the injured receive proper medical care and we are investigating all possible causes behind the crash.”
