Senior Congress leader and two-time MLA Krishna Mohini today died after protracted illness at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

She was ailing for some time and was brought to the hospital in a critical condition on February 21, her nephew Ashok Sharma said. The body is being brought to Solan and she will be cremated at the Chambaghat cremation ground in Solan tomorrow at 2.30 pm.

A school teacher and NCC officer, Krishna Mohini (84) was unmarried and elected to the Himachal Assembly from Solan in 1993 and re-elected in 1998 but her election was set aside by the High Court.

She entered politics in 1977 and unsuccessfully contested Assembly elections from the Doon constituency and later joined the Congress. She also served as the chairperson of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education.

Mohini also held various posts in the State Congress Committee, Ex-Servicemen’s Cell as well as the State Congress Sewa Dal. She was also elevated as the vice-chairman, Co-operative Super Bazar. She also remained the Chief Editor of a fortnightly ‘Monal’ and was also associated with a weekly, ‘Solan Satta’ and a monthly, ‘Women’s Voice’.
