Dhanveer Singh, a forest guard deployed in the Bhangani range at Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district, was allegedly attacked with stones and shovels by mining mafia from Uttarakhand.
The incident took place when the victim stopped the mafia members from carrying illegal quarry material in a tractor-trailer on the Yamuna riverbed this morning.
DFO, Paonta Sahib, Kunal Angrish said a team of four to five forest staffers was overpowered by 12 Uttarakhand residents, who were fleeing back to their state after filling a tractor-trailer, which bore no registration number.
Dhanveer Singh sustained injuries during the scuffle and he was admitted at the local Civil Hospital. His condition was stable.
A case under Sections 353,332 of the IPC and Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals(Development and Regulation) Act had been registered and further probe was underway, said the DFO.
