In an effort to check illegal mining, the Una district administration on Tuesday launched drones in and around the most vulnerable areas of Swan River.
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal and SP Rakesh Singh were present at the maiden run on of the equipment.
The drones detected some vehicles engaged in illegal mining, with the vehicles being impounded after.
The DC and SP reached the spots identified by the drones to impound the vehicles.
The drones were used at Khanpur, Fatehpur, Santoshgarh and Bathari villages, where the Swan passes through at its widest before entering into Punjab.
Mafias from the state and Punjab are active at these places, and some tractors bearing Punjab registration numbers were also among those impounded on Tuesday.
The DC said drones would be put to use every day, and strict fines wold be imposed on the illegal miners. The state government had announced a zero tolerance policy towards illegal mining, and the district administration was working in line with this decision, he added.
