Apropos a news published on August 20, 2024, regarding the Unity Mall coming up in the Dagwar area of Kangra, the Congress government today claimed that the mall was sanctioned on August 19, 2023, during its tenure.
A government spokesperson said that the Central Government had launched a scheme of special assistance to states for capital investment and had also issued revised guidelines for the construction of the Unity Mall.
He said that as per the mandate of the scheme, the Unity Mall would function as a one-stop marketplace and commercial centre for ODOP, GI tagged, and handicraft products of the state while also showcasing products from other states, catering to domestic and foreign tourists.
The spokesperson said the Department of Industries in consultation with experts, consultants and the HPSIDC had prepared a detailed project report of the Unity Mall and submitted it to the Centre in August 2023.
The Industries Department would shortly float a tender for the construction, operation and maintenance of the Unity Mall in the PPP mode on a revenue sharing model.
As per the scheme guidelines, showcasing of products of Himachal and other states are to be provisioned in the upcoming Unity Mall. Other indicative features include parking, hotel, food courts, private and other commercial activities.
