Vandana Bansal is new Nalagarh MC prez
Vandana Bansal was unanimously chosen as the new president of the Nalagarh Municipal Council today in a meeting chaired by Nalagarh SDM Divyanshu Singhal.
She is the third president in the present house of the civic body which was elected in January 2021. Bansal will occupy this post for the remaining 15-month term. Seven of the nine councillors attended the meeting which was convened by the SDM at Nalagarh today.
The post had fallen vacant after the incumbent Alka Verma resigned on August 24. It was declared vacant on September 5 and the SDM was directed to hold elections for choosing the new president today by the Deputy Commissioner, Solan. Councillor Mahesh Gautam proposed her name and it was seconded by former president Alka Verma. Bansal received the unanimous support of all councillors present in the meeting while two others comprising — Shalini Sharma and a former president Reena Sharma — abstained from the meeting. Alka Verma had resigned on August 24 as per an intra-party decision to share this post with Vandana Bansal after a year. Verma had been chosen as the president on August 24,2023 after a no-confidence motion was moved against the then president Reena Sharma by five of the nine councillors in December 2022. Nalagarh MLA Hardeep Bawa said that all the wards will be granted Rs 2 lakh from the MLA local area development fund.
