Two Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) centres are likely to become functional within the next four or five months. “We have given permission to two applicants to start the facilities. One will be opened in Solan and the other in Hamirpur,” said an official of the Transport Department.
Until now, the owners had to get their vehicles scrapped at centres outside the state. “The construction has already started on these two facilities and we are hopeful that these will become functional after getting the required permissions, including from the Centre, in five months,” he said.
The individuals getting their vehicles scrapped after 15 years will get concession at the time of the registration of new vehicles. The scrapping of old vehicles will help reduce vehicular pollution. The RVSF centres will ensure optimal disposal of hazardous material and recycling.
