Vice Chancellor urges staff, anti-ragging panels to remain vigilant
In a bid to promote awareness about the evil of ragging and nurture an inclusive atmosphere at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, meetings have been convened with the anti-ragging committees from its three constituent colleges in the recent days.
Representatives from the College of Horticulture and the College of Forestry on the main campus, as well as the College of Horticulture and Forestry in Thunag participated in the deliberations.
The meetings were chaired by Prof Rajeshwar Chandel, Vice Chancellor of the university, and included student representatives, deans, faculty members and external stakeholders.
Prof Chandel lauded the efforts of the anti-ragging committees, especially the student members, in maintaining positive relationships between the senior and junior students across all campuses. He emphasised that interactions among students are vital to fostering a supportive academic environment and contribute significantly to overall personal development.
Acknowledging the well-documented issues associated with ragging, he urged committee members and the university community to remain vigilant. He encouraged the committees to facilitate connections among students, helping newcomers acclimate to the university life. Suggestions for enhancing goodwill and positive interactions between the new and returning students were actively discussed, along with initiatives aimed at raising awareness about ragging and its prevention to ensure a holistic learning environment.
Key participants included College Deans Dr Manish Sharma, Dr CL Thakur and Dr PL Sharma, Dean Students’ Welfare Dr KK Raina, Registrar Narender Kumar, Thunag SDM, besides representatives from the faculty and the Police Department.
