Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, during his two-day tour of Sirmaur district, reviewed key development projects and inaugurated the 46th state-level Basketball Championship at Guru Nanak Mission Public School, Paonta Sahib.
Singh inspected the ongoing construction of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Government College, being built at a cost of Rs 11.48 crore and directed officials to complete the project at the earliest. At the school event, he lauded the institution where nearly 6,500 students are enrolled, praising its staff for excelling in academics and extracurricular activities.
Expressing concern over rising drug abuse, Singh said it was a serious threat to the younger generation. He informed that the state government has decided to set up rehabilitation centres in every district to help affected youth. On the occasion, he announced Rs 2 lakh for interlocking tiles at Mission School, Haripur Tohana and lighting facilities at the basketball ground at Nahan.
MLA Nahan Ajay Solanki thanked the minister for his visit, stating that it would accelerate the pace of development works in the district.
During his visit to Tonru in the Anjbhog area, Singh was warmly welcomed by residents. Addressing a public gathering, he assured that despite difficult terrain, the government is committed to ensuring balanced development in remote regions. He announced the transfer of the PWD Junior Engineer section to Paonta Sahib Division, a new PWD sub-division office and the process to upgrade the Puruwala-Rajpur-Tonru-Kalatha-Badhana road to MDR status. He also sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for the construction of a community hall at Tonru.
Earlier, Singh inspected the Bhimawala bridge site near Bhagani Navghat.
