For the first time, rural communities from Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, including homestay operators, villagers and artistes, received the opportunity to promote their culture, tourism and traditions on an international platform. As part of the Chalo Chamba initiative, they interacted with representatives from India and abroad, sharing insights on responsible tourism, community-based hospitality and sustainable development.

The Chamba participants, led by “Not On Map”, an organisation promoting sustainable tourism and ACT, showcased their traditional attire, cultural heritage and the unique facilities offered through village homestays. They spoke about the importance of responsible tourism and how local communities are playing an active role in preserving heritage while offering authentic experiences to travellers.

We presented the themes of responsible tourism, culture and sustainable practices before an international audience. The BLTM brought together more than 20 countries and representatives from over 25 states of India, along with tour operators, hoteliers and professionals from across the tourism sector, said Manuj Sharma, co-founder of Not On Map.
