Villager held with 4-gm chitta in Theog

A person was arrested with 4.43 grams of heroin (chitta) from the Theog subdivision of Shimla district, the police authorities said here on Monday.

The accused was identified as Nitish Verma (38), a resident of Deori Ghat village, Theog, in Shimla district.

According to reports, upon receiving a tip-off that a person was on his way to Nangal Devi village with contraband, the police stopped the suspect’s car for checking.

During the checking, cops found the contraband hidden inside the car’s dashboard, wrapped in a transparent polythene bag.

The police immediately arrested the accused and seized the contraband.

Theog Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Siddharth Sharma confirmed the report and said a case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act had been registered against the accused at the Theog police station.

Further investigation was underway, he added.
